EG Designs™

I have never really had the desire to do freelance graphic design because frankly, I am lazy and just can't be bothered. For some reason, in the past couple months, I've had people contacting me asking me to do freelance for them. When someone comes to you and say's they'll pay you; you just can't say no! In the past few months, I have done freelance projects for a clothing company, a communal workspace, a tutoring company, a female empowerment media platform, and a wearable lingerie company. Some of these projects have been so much fun and rewarding, while others have been an absolute pain in my ass!

The first project I did was for a company called MadHappy (madhappy.us), which is an apparel brand which promotes positive thinking. The CEO got my contact and called me and told me he needs someone to design a sweatshirt for them. This sweatshirt was especially important to him as it was an homage to his friend who had passed away. This made me feel the pressure. I was also quite nervous as I had never designed apparel before. I took on the challenge, and I think I succeeded. I am especially excited about this project as the design has got into production and will be for sale next month! I loved working on this particular project because the company knew their vision and were so easy and sweet to work with.

The following two projects were so boring and I think it is because even though the clients enjoyed my work, I hated it. The tutoring company wanted me to design a hat. This hat was honestly just so ugly and their ideas were horrible (but, the client is always right!). We finished the project in a timely manner, but I never want to see this hat ever again. The communal workspace was boring as well and I did not like the end product either.

As far as the female empowerment media platform and the wearable lingerie companies, they are both still in progress. It will be interesting to see how they turn out and how these two processes compare to each other. I guess this is the beginning of my graphic design firm I've always wanted to start! I never really thought that I was good enough at graphic design to go out there and design for people, but these couple months have shown me I can actually do this. It is a great confidence booster, especially at this time in my life so close to graduation.

  2. I think it is awesome that you do freelance graphic design! (I've done a few things myself but unofficially - not paid) I know you may not have liked all of the projects you worked on but as long as you do the job well they could even help open other doors for you - and bring in more fun and interesting projects!
